Does your lawn in Allentown have ryegrass?  What is Perennial Ryegrass?

Green Turf is in the business of helping Allentown residents get a beautiful, green, lush lawn.

Perennial Ryegrass is established by seeding. This turf type is very similar to Kentucky bluegrass. Perennial Ryegrass has good density and uniformity. When planting, make sure you have fertile soil that is kept moist and has a good amount of sun exposure. Keep an eye on your perennial ryegrass because it does not like temperature extremes (especially the heat).

When mowing your lawn, the normal height to cut is 2 to 3 inches. Make sure you supply 2 to 4 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet during the growing season. Also give your lawn 1 to 1 ½ inches of water per week during the season. Thatch is not a major problem with perennial ryegrass but it is susceptible to diseases, especially red thread or Pythium blight.  Make sure too careful observe your lawn during the summer months to make sure insects are not eating your lawn.

An interesting observation for this grass is that it is usually always combined with Kentucky bluegrass. This type of grass is used a lot when over seeding lawns and germinates rapidly and strongly.
