Here at Green Turf, your local Macungie lawn maintenance, we have built a team that truly enjoys their job. This means that their work is of a quality and caliber that we stand behind everything they do. It’s that time of year again when homeowners start turning to, or at least thinking about, the care and upkeep of their lawns with the goal of seeing their yard and landscape flourish. It’s also the time of year when landscape professionals like ourselves must address some common misperceptions about when and how to tend to the lawn for maximum success. Today is part 2 of our 2 part lawn care and maintenance misconception series.
1. Lawns are not “organic.” While a lot of people don’t think about lawns as providing environmental benefits, they are actually highly complex and dynamic organic systems that not only contain turfgrasses, but also earthworms, fungi, soil microbes and other life forms that coexist and make possible the lawns we all enjoy for recreation, sports and aesthetics.
2. The best time to fertilize your lawn is in early spring. Actually, different types of lawns require fertilizer at different times of the year. You need to use the right fertilizer source, at the right rate, at the right time, and in the right place. This is why it’s important to hire a professional like us to make sure your grass is getting fertilized at the right times and rates.
3. The products lawn care companies use are dangerous and more powerful than what a homeowner can use. Actually, most of the products we use can be purchased at your lawn care center. The difference is that professionals are regulated and, by law, have to use the proper amounts, apply them correctly and dispose of them properly.
